Danish Army
Specific: The shelter mounted
on the shown truck is a "ACE 2" model produced
by Italian Rinaldo Piaggio SpA in Genova. It contains a facsimile and a
HF-radio for retrieving meteorological information
(MEDCOM).
The system was acquired by NATO in the mid 1970´s to be
used by COMBALTAP field headquarter. Mounted on a
Mercedes-Benz LA/911 it was maintained by personnel from
the 6th Danish Signal Battalion.
COMBALTAP was closed in a reorganisation of the
European NATO-headquarters in the late 1980´s, and the
obsolete MEDCOM-shelter was transferred to Denmark around
1990. It was then mounted on the shown IVECO 110 - 17.
Historical: The model 110 - 17 AW was acquired
by the German Army from 1988 to supplement existing
stocks of the Mercedes-Benz 1017A 5 ton truck. Same characteristics
as for the 110 - 16 except for dual rear-tyres and some minor
details. Also available without 4-wheel drive.
Besides the ordinary version with cargo bed, a version
with double cab for drivers training was acquired.
