Historical: Development of the T2 started in
1964, and production began in August 1967. Most notable
changes were the lay-out of the front with a one piece
windshield, and the turn signals relocated to just above
the bumper.
The production mark reached 2.000.000 in February 1968.
The series kept on developing, and in 1970 front disc
brakes were added, and the output was raised to 50 hp.
Transporter no 3.000.000 was produced in September 1971,
and a 1.679 cm3 engine developing 66 hp is introduced as
option same year.
In 1972 the T2 series was face lifted with heavier
bumbers and the front turn signals was relocated (back)
under the windshield. The VW sign at the front was
reduced in size.
A 1.970 cm3 engine developing 70 hp was introduced as an
option in 1975.
Models with 4 wheel drive were prototyped between 1975
and 1978, but never made it into production.
