Specific: A contract for 162 units was signed in
July 2001 after extensive trials. The other contenders were KTM with the
LC4650Army and another BMW, the R850GS. One of the demands from
the army was the capability to carry 210 kg in the
field. Another a range of minimum 250 km and a top speed of 110 km/t
under all conditions with full load.
Deliverance to the units had finished at the end of
spring 2002.
